Description

Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. The scheme encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

Launchpad is proud to have achieved a Gold Award. To qualify for this award, holders must sign the Armed Forces Covenant and demonstrate support for Defence, employing at least one Reservist, and actively communicating and upholding a positive stance to our employees via established HR policies and procedures.

In addition to meeting the above criteria, our advocacy and support of the armed forces community includes working in partnership with many other agencies and charities to provide support to our residents including, at the appropriate time, training and employment, followed by housing advice. We also organise an Armed Forces’ Dinner and guarantee interviews for veterans and forces family members providing they meet minimum job requirements.

About us

Launchpad provides vital accommodation and targeted support to UK Armed Forces’ veterans experiencing homelessness and those who have struggled with transitioning from the military into civilian life.

For most veterans, the transition from the armed forces to civilian life is smooth but more often than not, those few who can’t resettle easily face challenges such as homelessness, poverty, mental and physical health issues, addictions, broken families and unemployment. Launchpad was created to help veterans overcome these challenges and to live positive and rewarding lives thereafter.

Almost 90% of the veterans who arrive at Launchpad are homeless and are supported for up to two years (longer if necessary). The charity runs three houses in Newcastle, Liverpool and Durham, providing comfortable refurbished accommodation for 100 veterans, and an extensive range of support, with the help of specialist providers.

Since 2013, Launchpad has supported 675 veterans. On average, over the last five years, 61% of residents successfully moved on from Launchpad to live independently and 50% gained employment during their time with Launchpad.
