    Job Purpose:
    To ensure that standards and processes for CAD are in place and implemented, and that these standards are communicated and applied across UKPN Services for the full lifecycle.
     
    Dimensions:
    You will be the CAD Draughtsperson for UKPN Services Newington House and will help support infrastructure projects and management of Assets.
    You will produce design drawings relating to projects for UKPN Services electrical networks supply and scope provided by Design Engineers and Project Managers.
    You will prioritise workload and work to tight deadlines with minimum supervision.
     
    Principal Accountabilities
  1. Produce design drawings as part of the designs constructed in a safe efficient manner.
  2. Produce design drawings using Autodesk CAD system and Bentley CAD software packages which conform to all relevant Codes of Practice.
  3. Compliance with design assurance and audit processes
  4. Complying with the requirements of the designer as determined by the CDM Regulations (as amended in April 2016)
  5. Support and mentor other members of the team to enhance their technical knowledge.
  6. Assist with preparation of tenders and quotations.
  7. Manage work load
  8. Work as a Team Player in a dedicated team of Designers and CAD Specialists

 

Nature and Scope:

A CAD Draughtsperson will be an important contributor to the design team, establishing and assisting the Design Team in the management of the project workflows and being responsible for quality, clash detection and data conversion. The CAD Draughtsperson will report directly to the BIM / CAD Manager and through Senior CAD Technicians and Design Engineers.

 

Oversee the principle accountabilities as above. Additionally, UKPN Services has introduced Bentley ProjectWise for our projects. You will support the implementation and application of this system across all assets and also ensure compliance with the Common Data Environment (CDE).

 

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in electrical engineering with emphasis on AC and DC substation design. 
  • Expert user of AutoDesk AutoCAD V14 or above CAD systems
  • Expert user of Bentley MicroStation V8i or above CAD systems
  • Advanced knowledge and usage of Bentley ProjectWise V8i and Connect Edition. 
  • Understand BIM (Building Information Modelling) and its processes.
  • Identify clashes and spatial issues within modelled environments.
  • Competence in production of design drawings including room and equipment layouts, single line diagrams, logic diagrams, schematics, wiring and cabling diagrams etc.
  • Work with external engineering organisations and customers/partners representing UKPN Services to best effect.
  • A good safety culture and sound understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application in this role.
  • Work unsupervised, set and comply with own targets, and implement creative cost-saving solutions.
