About the Role
Working as part of our Defence Systems Technology (DST) business, we're looking for someone to make an impact to become our next Assistant Commercial Manager.

DST is a business unit within the Marine Sector of Babcock International Group. Working on a range of exciting design, manufacture and support projects, DST works with a number of key clients domestically and internationally. We're based at a number of sites in the UK and overseas.

The business continues to win new work and grow at a significant pace, as a result we are recruiting for an Assistant Commercial Manager to work with us to build our business, and your career. You will be working in a small but highly effective team that is the cornerstone of driving business growth and delivery to our customers. At the heart of our delivery and our team ethos is our DST Identity.

This role is in an integrated team which develops the strategy, pricing methods, and contractual terms and conditions required to win and deliver customer and business requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:-

  • Driving innovative approaches to our commercial positions, pricing, terms and conditions, and risk
  • Leading and supporting commercial discussions and negotiations with internal and external customers to deliver business results
  • Supporting in the generation of commercial arrangements with partners and suppliers
  • Ensuring that all Babcock policies and procedures are followed consistently across the business and improved where necessary
  • Co-ordination of a small team of Commercial Officers
  • Understanding and interpreting legislation as it applies to the businesses contracts
  • Contributing to the development of the Commercial function

What do I need to do the role?

  • You must be an experienced Senior Commercial Officer/Assistant Commercial Manager with experience in a similar role in the defence industry
  • Experience working in a complex commercial environment, including working within large, complex projects / programmes
  • A balance of public and commercial sector experience in a customer-facing role
  • Full project / programme life-cycle, with a particular emphasis on winning business
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • A great people manager who understands what it takes to manage, lead and inspire

What else do I need to know?

  • You should hold or have the ability to obtain full SC clearance
  • Flexible working - we give people more options to better integrate their work and personal life, whilst ensuring that business needs are met
  • Potential to travel internationally
  • If based at our Ashchurch or Plymouth offices, you must be able to travel to Bristol as and when required
