The Roads and Land Operations Service are looking for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Engineer to work within the Bridges Team. This fantastic opportunity allows for a professional officer to contribute to the delivery of an effective and reliable Structural Engineering service, which will deliver positive outcomes for our customers and communities. The successful candidate is expected to have sound technical skills and have a willingness to learn, thus allowing them to undertake a range of Engineering duties associated with the maintenance and management of new and existing bridges, culverts and retaining walls.
The candidate will join a small team of officers that cover this technical specialism across both the rural and urban Stirling Areas, renowned for their scenic beauty and historical significance.
Educated to degree level, you will possess relevant post qualification experience in Bridge Management, Bridge Maintenance or Bridge Design. A thorough understanding of relevant legislation and current design standards relating to Bridge Management, Assessment and Design, including relevant codes of practice, is also a requirement of this post.
The candidate must be self-motivated and confident, with excellent inter-personal skills, communicating effectively with other members of the project team and stakeholders. Given Stirling's rich historical significance the candidate is expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for delivery of excellence in heritage and conservations projects.
To undertake the role we require excellent planning and organisational skills along with the ability to complete and implement projects within target deadlines. Candidate must be capable of developing innovative solutions and providing technical support.
It is also expected that you will have knowledge in the use of AutoCAD as well as project management practices and software relating to the structural engineering discipline.
In the role you will be a key member of the Structural Team and be responsible for;
Providing technical input to projects
Carrying out bridge inspections and assessments
Work towards a Council bridge inspection accreditation
Preparing technical reports and feasibility studies
Undertaking structural strength assessments
Design of new and refurbishment bridge schemes
Assessment and design calculations using relevant standards
Scheme procurement and tendering
Harnessing innovation to plan and design bridge improvement and repair
Support can be provided to pursue Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers if desired.
