Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst to join their existing Business Intelligence Team. The Business Intelligence Team plays an integral role in providing a wide range of data from various sources to assist in the development of service improvement options. The department is also used as a tool to drive the management of performance across the entire organisation.

This is achieved through analysing and evaluating authority performance data alongside data from external sources (Mosaic, CLG and Census). Thus providing feedback to Authority personnel at all levels to support the formulation of policy, targets, strategy and service development.

Applicants must possess the ability to critically analyse complex information that will cross reference against the risks and benefits to the organisations commitments. You will also possess excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written. You will use programming languages (SQL) and mathematical/statistical techniques to write complex queries to interrogate the Service’s systems.

Job Purpose

The Business Intelligence Analyst will carry out analytical work to support performance across the organisation, and contribute to both corporate and local projects.

Operational

The mathematical/statistical analysis uses data from internal and external sources and creates and manipulates relational databases as well as providing interactive reports generated from existing databases supporting the development and delivery of corporate projects.

Principal Accountabilities

Analyse and prepare statistical information from a variety of sources to assist in the production of the Service’s performance information including the use of GIS systems to analyse and display the results where appropriate.

Analyse and prepare statistical information from a variety of sources to support corporate change projects.

Produce and improve monthly and annual performance reports, and other reports as required, to enable local managers to take appropriate action.

Provide a quality assurance role in relation to analysis provided to internal groups and functions.

Develop and provide analytical reports to enable all service activities to be monitored for effectiveness and against service targets.

Develop and improve the facilities for local managers to access relevant and timely information through Intranet reports.

Research national and local trends, identifying problem areas in order to provide effective information for management action.

Assist in the preparations of statistical information or relevant records held by the Section in response to Freedom of Information requests received by the Service.

 

Job Context:

Planning & Organisation

The Business Intelligence Team (BIT) is a central resource proving analytical support to all areas of the Service. The BIT deliver statistical analysis to support corporate and local performance management and conduct research to support service development. The BIT form part of the Policy and Performance department and work closely with the project Management Office to support corporate projects.

The post holder will be required to organise their own work activities within a defined area of activity.

Decision Making

The post holder will need to make minor day to day decisions often without close supervision. For other matters the post holder will refer to the Senior BI Analyst for more complex work.

Internal and External Relationships

The focus of the relationships will be with authority personnel although these, in the vast majority of cases, will be outside of the department. The post holder will need to be able to work with a variety of colleagues from station personnel through to members of the Corporate Management Board. Some external communication with partners may be required from time to time.
