BU Business Development Director
The role of the Growth Function BU Business Development Director: Defence is to work in collaboration with the Defence Business Unit to support development of the BU pipeline, and to ensure that all business opportunities are reviewed in order to maximise opportunity, profitability and manage/control business and financial risk.
The BU's ambition is to be the trusted provider of complex services to UK Defence, through partnership and leverage of intellectual property to generate great value propositions.
To support the development of the Defence Business Unit Business Development strategy and plan(s) that will achieve short, medium- and long-term profitable growth.
In collaboration with the Business Unit, develop and help manage a long-term and sustainable pipeline from Gate 0-2 to ensure the business growth targets are achieved in support of the 5-year strategic growth plan.
Support the identification and development of new sales leads in the agreed market verticals.
Setting the standard for sales productivity tools, ensuring they are used effectively to drive sales and bid governance to win and execute business in order to operate within best practice procedures and meet corporate and legal requirements.
With BU colleagues, undertaking customer 1:1 and 1: many engagements and events to establish Serco's position in the market and develop new leads and opportunities.
Leadership and direction of the Growth BD team aligned to the Business Unit to deliver successful sales outcomes.
Maximising the professional development of all BD function team members through the deployment of a Professional Development Plan approach.
To win bids from new customers and new markets and re-bids in order to achieve new business growth targets.
To lead and encourage joint initiatives within and between divisions on bids which maximize resource to win cross-organisational opportunities.
What you will need to do the job
Excellent knowledge of how to use company governance processes to translate potential sales opportunities into successfully run and profitable operations.
Highly impactful, articulate, strong relationship builder with the ability to influence at all levels and with evidence of building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external customers and key business stakeholders.
Excellent analytical skills with ability to assimilate information quickly and communicate key messages simply and effectively to the business to aid decision making.
Sound strategic thinker with the ability to operate with a hands-on, pragmatic approach when required.
Strongly values led individual with excellent judgement and decision-making skills.
Self-aware yet highly resilient individual capable of challenging and being challenged.
Experience of Central and Local Government procurement and sales mechanisms (ITT, Competitive Dialogue etc)
