Here at Serco we're looking for a Category Manager to join the Procurement Service Team that works in partnership with Peterborough City Council. The aim of the team is to drive procurement transformation and efficiencies that deliver cashable savings for the City Council - and as our Category Manager you'll be responsible for undertaking strategic sourcing initiatives and tactical buying to achieve that across areas as diverse as Highways and Social Care.
Working in collaboration with our client stakeholders and our wider team you'll define the procurement needs, challenges and targets for the Council - and then you'll design and implement the strategy to deliver those targets. This will involve you identifying new procurement opportunities, capturing and interpreting management information, developing supplier relationships, and ensuring that key performance indicators are being met.
You will have the opportunity to provide a significant contribution to our transformation program as you own, embed and execute best category management practice on behalf of the client. You won't be working alone however. Reporting to the Senior Category Manager the role offers long term potential for growth and you'll be supported with ongoing development and training. You'll also be working with a team that has an agile working ethos and who are all hugely committed to both the commercial capability of the customer.
What you need to do the job
We are looking for someone who has broad category management experience working in an outsourced environment within Public Sector or Local Government. You should hold or be working towards a CIPS qualification, however this is not essential if you can demonstrate relevant experience, which should include experience of legal frameworks, contract law and whole category management lifecycle. You should have good understanding of complex financial and performance data and how to analyse this.
Naturally confident, you will be able to negotiate successfully with all stakeholders and have the gravitas to build solid relationships to leverage supplier capability. It is important that you can get the best out of practices and processes and are not afraid to challenge the status quo.
Meaningful and vital work: Delivering taxpayer efficiencies and savings is hugely important for local authorities, and as our Category Manager you'll have a direct impact on Peterborough City Council.
A world of opportunity: Our Procurement Service Team is always growing and developing, and you'll be able to contribute to and be a part of this.
