About the Department
Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.
What is the Role?
Due to growth within SHE Transmission, we have an excellent opportunity for a Civil Subject Matter Expert to join us. The role involves writing or reviewing technical specifications required for all civil works associated with substation, overhead line and cable design for new or refurbished assets on the Transmission network to include development of technology.
As a Technical Authority review test plans to ensure that all technology and equipment selected is adequately tested, proven and validated. You will also review proposed suppliers to confirm their suitability where specialist input is required.
As Subject Matter Expert, you will provide input to design reviews carried out by the Design Authority to verify project proposals are fit for purpose. You will also provide technical guidance to Asset Management regarding civil asset condition and to Operations regarding civil capability.
You will represent Transmission at industry body events such as ENA or Cigre working groups and attend conferences.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, you will have demonstrable experience in the development, design and specification of civil works related to electrical transmission or similar infrastructure and a degree in Civil Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
A detailed knowledge and understanding of a range of British and European Standards related to civil infrastructure and the ability to technically assess issues and/or problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions is required for this role.
If you have achieved Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or you're working towards chartered status this would be beneficial.
Computer skills encompassing spreadsheets, databases and project management tools are also required.
