Are you a Dental Practitioner looking for an exciting and rewarding role? If so, there is a fantastic new opportunity for a Civilian Dental Practitioner, working with Defence Primary Healthcare at Chicksands, Shefford, SG17 5PR.
As part of Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) you will be part of a national team providing safe, effective and efficient healthcare services for entitled personnel. This is achieved through the provision of an occupationally aware primary healthcare service which includes medical, dental, rehabilitation and mental healthcare services.
The role at Chicksands involves working in a friendly, sociable dental practice. The team consist of a mix of military and MOD civil servants collocated with a large medical centre. You will be resourced to carry out care to the highest clinical standard to ensure serving personnel’s risk of suffering dental morbidity is kept as low as is reasonably possible.
As part of reflective and progressive clinical team you will be expected to partake in regular peer review meetings to discuss contemporary clinical issues, management of specific cases and their relevance to an occupationally focused service. You will also be able to access regional military focused continuing professional development opportunities, alongside the DPHC consultant led webinars that facilitate learning worldwide.
Duties of a Civilian Dental Practitioner include but are not limited to;
Providing an occupationally sensitive oral health assessment, in line with NATO Dental Fitness categorisation
Providing occupationally robust and suitably aesthetic oral care to service personnel
The timely completion of referrals of personnel with in the military Managed Clinical Network
Ensuring that contemporaneous notes are recorded on individuals’ integrated electronic healthcare records for all episodes of care
Taking individual responsibility for your personal and professional development
Partaking in regular audit and quality improvement/service evaluation initiatives

Competence/experience in the following areas is required to be stated in CV application:
Clinical skills - Competent in the delivery of all healthcare aspects associated with general dental practice.
IT skills - Familiar with electronic healthcare records.
Staff appraisal – Willing and able to contribute to staff development and appraisal.
Knowledge of contemporary professional guidance - NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence), FDGP (Faculty of General Dental Practitioners), SDCEP (Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Program), GDC (General Dental Council) etc.
Knowledge of clinical methodology in line to provide occupational focused care
The successful candidate must be fully registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) without conditions.
You also must have undertaken Vocational or Foundation Dentist Training (or have qualified before foundation training became compulsory in the NHS); or have evidence of adequate clinical experience (either in the UK or abroad) to be able to practice independently.
Full UK driving license to enable regular working from other local military dental centres will be required.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home. This may include being required to work at other dental centres with-in the local area.
The successful applicant will be required to participate in the out of hours on-call emergency roster.

Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is Security Check and Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
