Continuous Improvement Specialist Facilitator

Would you like to play a key role in driving improvement initiatives across complex submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist Facilitator at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.

As a CI Specialist Facilitator, you will be part of the CI Dreadnought function within the submarine build programme. You will be allocated to different teams within the programme, working alongside Team Leaders and Managers of those teams. You will be tasked with different improvement initiatives such as value stream analysis activities, waste elimination, reducing production costs, as well as improving delays and material flow within the submarine build processes. A key part of your role will be to drive CI behaviour and mentality within the facility and business.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a range of different initiatives across the Dreadnought submarine programme.

Your main responsibilities as a Continuous Improvement Specialist Facilitator will involve:

Delivering clear and quantifiable improvements to the Dreadnought programme whilst proactively driving change and improvement in a complex environment that involves influencing a range of stakeholders and working with technical information

Seeking improvement opportunities and making them happen, often through short Kaizen opportunities, multi-day facilitated events with key stakeholders whilst working through obstacles and challenges

Identifying key risk areas and bottlenecks on the Dreadnought programme, targeting improvements, whilst engaging with existing input channels such as Learning from Experience (CI/LfE database)

Managing your own workload, prioritising projects and maintaining progress against agreed milestones and delivery dates; making visible the improvement effort and journey within focus areas

Providing technical mentoring, guidance, coaching and training to the wider team around facilitating improvement events and the appropriate use of tools and techniques such as LEAN and Six Sigma methodologies

Providing accurate and suitably detailed documentation such that issues and problems can be addressed in a timely manner through the use of structured problem solving, process/ waste analysis, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), A3 Thinking etc. for Learn & Share opportunities

Your skills and qualifications as a Continuous Improvement Specialist Facilitator:

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint

Demonstrable experience in one of the following areas:

  • Continuous Improvement
  • Lean methodologies
  • Six Sigma
  • Operational Excellence

You must have excellent coaching and mentoring skills, alongside the ability to engage and instil continuous improvement behaviours across the business. Good communication and stakeholder management skills, will also be key to success in this role.
