Control & Instrumentation Engineer (Solution Development Engineer)

 

Salary & Benefits: £43,973 to £54,968 per annum dependent on experience. This is a permanent position, working 37 hours per week within the company's standard working window and will be based across the Yorkshire region, your base will be determined by your home location, however, this role offers a hybrid working option. You will be required to travel to different operational sites across the Yorkshire region therefore a full valid driving licence is an essential requirement of the role.

 

What will the role involve?

 

The Solution Development Engineer will provide technical expertise and knowledge within Control & Instrumentation (C&I) discipline to lead or support on proactive and planned technical, engineering and investigations to develop detailed solutions.

 

 The Solution Development Engineer will be responsible for delivering and developing robust engineering work packages/delivery work scopes which will then be delivered or transferred to a delivery team.  Part of this role will provide Engineering Standards support to the ICA Principal Engineer, together with support to the capital teams for integration of new assets.

 

You will provide on-site process and operational expertise in relation to the interrogation of control and process automation systems, instrumentation, PLC, and associated networks to determine the functional performance of safety systems/layers of protection etc.

 

 The Solution Development Engineer will provide the technical knowledge and expertise to lead or support on follow-up Standard Investigations (SIR) for pollutions, equipment, asset, and process performance shortfalls.

 

You will attend YW Functional Work Group as a Subject Matter Expert' in own specialist discipline/skills for developing maintenance plans, Engineering Specifications etc, particularly around instrumentation and commissioning.

 

You will lead a technical team in the selection of instrumentation and suppliers for new frameworks to support the capital delivery programme.

 

 You will provide technical support to the Asset Integration team in way of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations following incidents and failures of process equipment and assets and draw up detailed delivery scopes of work as an output of the engineering performance investigations against pollutions, equipment, asset, and process performance shortfalls which are suitable for entry into Yorkshire Water's risk management system or for delivery through the Yorkshire Water delivery teams.  

 

 You will provide engineering standards support to the ICA Principal Engineers in way of the development of the Engineering Specifications, WIMES and design guidance.

 

 You will provide coaching and mentoring to team members to support the transfer of specialist knowledge and succession planning within Yorkshire Water.

 

 Experience/skills/training needed

 

 You will hold an HNC/HND Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic /Control & Instrumentation Engineering.

 

You will have previous experience in developing and writing engineering standards and specifications. In addition, you will have previous experience of developing engineering solutions and incorporating these into a work package/specification for delivery.

 

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills - including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts/strategies into more readily understood information suitable for a wider business audience and be able to influence people across multifunctional teams throughout the business. 

 

You will have previous data management experience and you will have strong analytical skills, be proficient in IT as you will be using a range of Company IT systems, Microsoft Office including Word and Excel and Office 365.

 

You will have the ability to engage with customers internally and externally, developing and maintaining strong positive business relationships to understand their needs and recognise opportunities.

 

You will have strong coaching/mentoring skills and be able to train and communicate new initiatives and obtain "buy in" from stakeholders at all levels.

 

You will be required to carry out on-site audits for assurance of compliance and performance, so you must have a full valid driving license and flexibility to travel across the Yorkshire region (you will have no more than 6 points on your licence).

 

Ideally, you will have a Degree in Engineering or equivalent, and preferably membership (or working towards membership) of a recognised Engineering Institution at Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.

 

 Ideally, you will have plant optimisation and reliability engineering experience.

 

Ideally, you will have experience of instrumentation and closed loop control systems used in automation within the process industry.

 

Ideally, you will have previous experience in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and can use these techniques in equipment failure investigations.

 

Ideally you will have Asset management experience within a large-scale engineering or process related industry.
