SSE Enterprise Contracting is one of the UK's largest Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contractors with a product/service portfolio ranging from M&E LV, HV, Instrumentation, Street Lighting, Facilities Management through to Combined Heat and Power solutions.

What is the Role?

As Design Manager, you'll be expected to ensure that SSE follow, adhere and enforce the engineering requirements for our projects.

You'll be required to work closely with the work winning teams in Business Development, Bid Support and Estimating in order to lead cost effective & competitive solutions for SSE; based on the understanding of their operational, financial and environmental drivers. This will be a hybrid role, primarily design management with aspects of Bid/Pre-construction Management, as such you'll possess the strategic and creative insight to understand the full range of opportunities contained within invitations to tender (ITT) and be willing to challenge the norm.

Working from one of our offices in either Glasgow, Leeds, Reading, London or Manchester, your main duties will be to; assist the business in pre-construction phases to ensure the best value is driven from any designs. This will also include the design appointments, design programme and design deliverables schedules, technical submittals, drawings approvals process and design repository portal as part of the pre-construction process for hand over to the Business Verticals to take ownership during delivery phase, including establishing the commissioning strategy and end-out process. You'll also be expected to produce elements of the design to improve the SSE offering and where design gaps have been established.

What Do I Need?

To be successful in this role, you'll need proven experience in either electrical or mechanical engineering (building services sector), working in design management, consultant engineering or related field, with appropriate professional qualification. You'll have a thorough understanding of design interfaces, risk and opportunity and relationship management.

BSRIA BG 6 design deliverables pro-forma documentation, CDM 2015 and Residual Risk experience and 2D and 3D CAD, e.g. AutoCAD, Revit. Conversant in BIM principals and PAS 1192 (BIM Level 2).

You'll also be required to have;

- Educated to a Degree, HND or HNC (with experience) in a building services engineering discipline,

- Management skills combined with previous experience of managing teams and their performance

- Ability to network, internally/externally to facilitate development of customers and stakeholders

- Design experience preferably in a quotation and delivery role/environment

- IT skills to conduct formal presentations and conduct analysis of performance figures

- Excellent planning and organisational skills

Finally, as there will be travel involved in this role, you'll need a full driving licence.
