Here at Serco we're looking for an Equality & Inclusion Administrator to join us at HMP Thameside based in London. The postholder will provide support to the Equality & Inclusion Manager by assisting to record adherence to the legal duty of; Eliminating Discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any conduct prohibited by or under the Act; Advance Equality of Opportunity between persons who share a protected characteristic and those who do not share it and; Foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.
You will assist the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Manager to ensure compliance with the Single Equality Scheme and HMPPS Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Statement 2021. Supporting the EDI Manager with scheduling offenders via the Purposeful Activity Team. Helping to plan with the EDI Manager workshops/events with prisoners and external agencies and you will assist the EDI Manager with keeping an up-to-date database of Community Engagement and external partners opportunities. Conducting regular research to build upon the opportunities we provide to our diverse population.
You will act as a central contact point for prisoners via CMS, responding to applications on a daily basis. Keep up to date spreadsheets on prisoners' wellbeing checks; GRT Prisoners; Older and Young Adults; Transgender Prisoners; those with Disabilities; those under Social Care etc. Make Referrals to Social Care for Vulnerable Prisoners. Record engagement in Case Notes/NOMIS/Diversity or Social Care. Ensure prisoners are signposted to relevant services.
You are to promote compliance of the 9 Protected Characteristics in all our practices and processes. Disability; Age; Sex; Gender; Religion & Belief; Sexual Orientation; Race; Marriage & Civil Partnership; Pregnancy & Maternity.
As part of this you'll:
- Manage the booking system for all bookable rooms' required for Equality Meetings; Forums; Training and others.
- Advertise Equalities Upcoming Events & initiatives on CMS noticeboard and wings. Notice boards are to be regularly updated with current and topical information.
- Contacting prisoners by phone/face-to-face to identify their diverse needs.
- DIRFs - Ensure timeliness of DIRF responses. Maintain regular communication with the investigating officer.
- Maintain and empty DIRF Boxes Monday, Wednesday and Friday weekly and replenish forms.
- Communicate between the Diversity Equality Action Team - DEAT and Protected Characteristics Leads issues regarding equality.
What you'll need to do the role
First and foremost, you'll ideally have worked in a secure environment or similar, but this is not essential as all training will be provided. It would be advantageous if you have experience working with offenders in some capacity, however you must have previous administration experience as a minimum to qualify for this role.
The successful applicant will be computer literate, able to work on their own initiative, approachable, efficient and reliable. We are looking for someone that can communicate at all levels, build strong working relationships and be a successful part of an ever-growing team.
