The role:

Flight Data Programme Manager

You will be responsible for the efficient delivery of the Flight Data Monitoring Programme, assisting in the further development and evolution of the programme and the dissemination of related insights and analysis to empower enhanced oversight of organisational flight safety performance. You will work with a team of Flight Data Investigators and the relationships with programme stakeholders.

What you'll do:

  • Develop the capability of analytical investigations into Safety trends and occurrences identified through, or enhanced by, the interrogation of flight data.
  • Review and triage events triggered through the Flight Data Monitoring Programme, raising these for investigation in accordance with the British Airways SMS principles.
  • Supports the evolution of the Flight Data Monitoring Programme through engagement with internal & external customers, development and testing of new techniques for safety performance monitoring, analysis, and insight generation.
  • Supports the analysis of flight data trends and communicating these to the safety action groups and organisational working groups through a clear and evidenced based approach.
  • Enhance the performance of the British Airway's Flight Data Monitoring Programme through the development of events and methodologies and driving industry standard process in this area.
  • Engage with industry and regulatory working groups to share standard process and further develop FDM knowledge, understanding and usage for the improvement of aviation safety.
  • Champion a curiosity and courageousness, in Flight Data Monitoring to drive the British Airway's platform towards an innovative standard.
  • Deputise for the Flight Data Safety Manager as required.

What you'll bring to British Airways:

  • Strong influencing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Directorates in a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of the relevant elements of applicable UK, EU and global legislation (desirable).
  • Excellent analytical ability - able to work with complex and sometimes conflicting data (essential).
  • Demonstrates resilience and delivery to tight timescales.
  • Considers alternative approaches and identifies new opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work under time constraints in a safety critical environment, often with partial datasets and ambiguity.
  • Able to think holistically and creatively to solve multi-dimensional problems
  • Able to manage the delivery of multiple concurrent pieces of work/projects using good project and time management skills, working independently and without close supervision.

Your experience:

  • Numerate degree or relevant work experience in a similar role (essential).
  • Experience or knowledge of Flight Data Monitoring and its role in the enhancement of aviation safety.(essential)
  • Expertise in using Excel (including PowerPivot/Power Query) and SQL or other data retrieval and manipulation tools, or a proven ability to learn (essential).
  • Previous airline operational knowledge/experience (essential).
  • Experience of working with programming languages including Python and R (desirable).
  • Previous Aviation regulatory knowledge or experience would be highly beneficial (desirable).
