Here at HMP Dovegate in Uttoxeter, it takes a whole team of people to keep the facility safe, secure and in proper working order. As our new Plumber & Gas Safety Engineer, you will report into the Senior Engineer & Facilities Manager and work alongside a team of multi-skilled engineers within the Facilities Services team, carrying out routine, general, planned preventative maintenance, repair and testing of gas systems.
As part of your role you will carry out fault finding and defect rectification to items of installed plant and apparatus, as and when required. You will also have access to operating tools and machinery in the works services workshops, ensuring that they are handled safely as per your training of installed equipment. As Plumber & Gas Safety Engineer, you must be able to provide technical reasoning skills to resolve problems associated with the various elements of the post and be able to bench overhaul; clean and adjust specific items of equipment. Other key responsibilities will include:
- Investigations into the performance of the plant and equipment installed on the site, producing reports and recommendations.
- Assist in specifying and obtaining spare parts/other items of equipment to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of the technical estate.
- Ensuring various pre-planned maintenance schedules are kept up to date and maintained.
- Assisting in multi-trade support of other members of the FM team.

What you will need to do the role:
We are looking for an someone who has previously worked in a similar role and will be able to hit the ground running upon starting. A full current driving licence is a must. As you will be assisting in multi-trade support within the team, we would also consider relevant certifications or licences that will allow you to aid in these areas for e.g. Commercial & Domestic qualifications, 17th Edition IEE would be an advantage and appropriate experience in both Commercial and Domestic systems. Although experience working in a security/custodial environment would be desirable, this is not essential.
A key part of this role is to be pro-active and this will be achieved by commitment to customer satisfaction and striving for continuous improvement in your working approach, including the ability to prioritise workload, using your own initiative and working in a logical and methodical manner to tight timescales. You will be confident in your ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both in writing and orally. It is important that you have a flexible and common-sense approach to work, as the role will include being a member of the facilities Out of Hours' call out roster, as and when required.
