Head of Supplier Programme Management

The Maritime & Land Sector is one of the reporting segments for BAE Systems plc. It consists of four standalone businesses - Submarines, Naval Ships, Maritime Services and Munitions - as well as the newly formed RBSL JV, with a combined turnover of in excess of £3bn. As the Sector moves forward enhancing functional capability and collaboration will be a key factor in its success.

As a Head of Supplier Programme Management, you will be responsible for shaping the approaches undertaken to deliver greater value to the business and the enterprise, and for improving the functional capabilities by creating employee development opportunities. The role holder will work closely with the Engineering and Programme Management teams across Maritime & Land UK, to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to supplier programme management.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to establish a multi-functional approach to supplier management, mitigating key business risks and generating additional value founded on external best practice, to enable supply chain operational excellence.

Your main responsibilities as Head of Supplier Programme Management will involve:

The role is responsible for developing and leading the improvements to the functional supplier programme management activities in order to deliver effective support to programmes, including:

Develop and implement a supplier programme management and development framework across Maritime & Land UK

Implementing standardisation of metrics for reporting, developing analytics to provide senior management teams with visibility against key performance targets, trends and early warning flags

Understanding front end Customer requirements to assess suitability of the supply chain to deliver and identifying areas where supplier programme management can mitigate risk or drive improvement

Driving demonstrable improvements in supplier performance through interventions and different working practises

Designing capabilities, job families and competencies for supplier and subcontract programme management aligned to the future needs of the sector

Collaborating across Engineering and Programme Management and with global procurement teams

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Experience working at a management level defining supplier programme management practices and delivering strategies for improvement of capability

Experience of supplier /subcontract programme management in a complex environment

Experience of people capability development and change management

Knowledge of a wide range of procurement approaches and strategies

Experience managing and influencing stakeholders at all levels to achieve successful outcomes

Desirable:

Experience of coaching and developing others

Lean Six Sigma Qualification

You will be a confident communicator who is able to interact with multiple business units and stakeholders. You will have an excellent understanding of supplier management frameworks and demonstrate a solution driven approach.

Location: flexible - can be based at any of our sites across Glasgow, Barrow, Portsmouth or from home with UK travel required occasionally
