Why work for The Bridge? There are a hundred reasons.

Maybe you’ve known someone suffer without help, or perhaps you’re tired of seeing the same new stories about homelessness? Join us and you can help change lives.

Everyone at The Bridge has heaps of energy and positivity, and we are lucky to say we start every day knowing we can make a difference to local people. We are a small charity, but we’re also a close-knit family that’s organised, focussed and driven.

There are loads of great benefits to working for The Bridge, such as the extra holiday days or the flexible working. However, these benefits are not why you join in the first place... Or why you stay. From day one you’ll receive all the training you need. Here, helping you develop your career and skills is a top priority. We value you, partly because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it really helps you achieve what you came to The Bridge for: changing other people’s lives for the better.

The Homeless Offenders Service (HOS) is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund to support people who have an offending history, including offenders in custody and in the community, who are of no fixed abode or who will be street homeless upon release from prison.

Being a Homeless Offenders Officer is a dynamic role which directly relieves homelessness; applicants should be forward-thinking and innovative, providing effective risk management and working through obstacles that may stand in the way of a client’s housing solutions.

The role is hugely varied, offering a unique opportunity to provide life-changing support to an often vulnerable client group, remaining with clients throughout their journey. By providing weekly 1:1 support as a minimum over an extended period, you will be able to see the fantastic impact that this service has on its clients: resolving housing crisis and creating stable futures.

It is important that we recognise that housing crisis does not simply end with a roof and a bed: creating stable futures includes identifying other support needs and barriers to accessing accommodation, such as improving independent living skills, health and wellbeing, supporting the development of EET opportunities, supporting integration with the local community. Applicants should be able to communicate effectively in all situations, with empathy where needed.

As a Homeless Offenders Officer, you will receive day-to-day support from your team and regular supervisions with your line manager, to ensure that the service is achieving the best possible outcomes for its clients. As well as working with your colleagues, you will liaise closely with probation and prison resettlement teams, strengthening the pathway and offering early intervention, to prisoners who are due for release with no fixed abode.

The service is operational across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and prisons servicing the area, so applicants will be expected to drive.

For an informal chat about the role please call our main phone line and ask to speak to Leanne Fletcher, Advice Services Manager.
