We are recruiting for the post of Housing Officer, Homelessness, who will be based within The Access Point, 17 and 23 Leith Street, Edinburgh.
The post requires a person who has the energy and enthusiasm to make a significant contribution to the work of our multi-disciplinary (Housing, Social work, Health) team in working with people who are homeless in Edinburgh. You will manage complex homelessness cases in respect to, at this time, 75-100 people. This caseload can, however go higher as well as lower.
Your role involves undertaking homelessness assessments which includes personal support assessments, planning, referrals, identifying priorities and anything else appropriate to successful case management for the customers you are working with.
Many of our customers (but not all) have experienced trauma and also have histories of using legal and illegal substances, mental and physical health issues and behavioural issues. We are therefore working towards becoming a trauma informed service.
An understanding of homelessness in general and in relation to Scotland in particular is essential.
Recording of casework has to be undertaken through the use of a computer and it is expected that you will have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, an ability to work in a focussed way, an ability to prioritise workload demands, and the ability work well with on site partners from different disciplines. You will also be expected to undertake outreach work which will be arranged as required.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
