Job Description

The Greater Manchester Shared Service (GMSS) is a partnership between Trafford Council and Greater Manchester Police, which was established early in 2017. Based at Trafford Town Hall, our aim is to provide a first class, professional, HR and payroll shared service for around 20,000 employees and customers across both organisations.

Greater Manchester Police is one of the UK's largest police forces and is responsible for keeping people safe across more than 1,200 sq km. The Force covers the Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan areas. GMP’s 10,000 officers and staff work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to keep almost three million people safe.

Trafford Council is located close to the centre of Manchester and employs around 8,000 staff, both full and part time in a wide range of jobs. The Council has a net budget of around £156m and serves a population of around 210,000.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a HRSS Operator within our Transactional Team who are responsible for ensuring GMSS deliver an excellent service to a consistently high standard.

The main purpose of the role holder will be to accurately processes requests relating to the employment lifecycle and payroll; verifying for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established policy and procedural requirements. The successful applicant will also provide general information and assistance on pay and employee procedures and documentation.

The role of an HRSS Operator includes maintaining an accurate working knowledge of the terms and conditions of services applicable to employees and with the legislation requirements of PAYE, National Insurance contributions, Pension Schemes and other legislation.

The successful applicant will develop and maintain productive working relationships with customer groups, colleagues and business areas; ensuring that service expectations are met and also demonstrate the ability to intelligently resolve problems and queries by applying correct procedures and referring to specialist staff as appropriate.
