Job Description

 

 

 

Purpose for the role:

The vessel's Engineer is accountable for the proper management of the vessel to the Technical Manager via the Line Manager (Vessel Superintendent).

The Engineer is also responsible for the safe, efficient and economic operation and maintenance of the vessel's main propulsion and auxiliary machinery, equipment, structure and fittings including associated electrical and electronic equipment, embarked craft, ship's boats and portable plant iaw relevant HASAW regulations.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • The operation maintenance, performance, availability, security, custody and safety of all equipment and systems in his charge
  • Vessel defect diagnosis, reporting and rectification.
  • Maintain safe working environment with regard to Health & Safety at Work Act and oil pollution regulations.
  • Prepare draft copy refit/docking specification in discussion with the Vessel Superintendent.  Liaison and oversight during refit/maintenance period.
  • Responsibility for loading and discharging fuel lubricants and sullage.  Ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
  • To be fully aware of and capable of carrying out emergency operation of all vessel systems.
  • The custody of drawings and publications associated with the equipment and systems in his charge, and of ships machinery spares and stores appropriate to his department
  • The compilation of records, reports and returns associated with the Master for standards of fire prevention and firefighting onboard vessels
  • Responsibility for liaison with and oversight of support personnel (Base and Contractors)
  • Provide all necessary written procedures for the Engineering Department aboard, as required by the Company Quality System or the ISM Code as appropriate.
  • Demand stores, fuel, and spare gear as necessary.
  • Member of the Ship's Management Team

  • Health and Safety awareness - desirable
  • Manual handling - desirable
  • Medical First Aid - desirable
