Job Description

Who are we?
Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to our 15 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000 km’s of pipes, to keep taps flowing and toilets flushing. We are an essential service and have operated throughout the Covid19 pandemic.

At Thames Water, every one of our actions, big and small, matters every day. Water is essential to daily life, and that means our business is always open.

What you’ll be doing
Every day we supply 2.6 billion litres of water, but sadly not all of that gets to our customers. We know it’s not acceptable to be losing precious water and we’re doing something about it. Last year, we reduced the amount of water lost by 5.4%. Our aim is to reduce our leakage by 20.4% between 2020 and 2025, with further large reductions beyond that.

To provide the most efficient and effective reduction in leakage, we need to continuously improve insight into where the leakage is in the network and how we are performing. We also need to ensure we select the most appropriate and cost-effective interventions on our water supply network to best manage down leakage, both in the shorter term and the longer term. The purpose of this role is to help us to provide the most accurate understanding of leakage levels at a local level for our operational teams to use for their day-to-day targeting of leakage control. It is also about helping us understand which leakage interventions are working best.

As the Leakage Strategy Analyst, you will become an expert user of our leakage management system Netbase, and the underlying data, and provide support to the digital team who will be upgrading the system to the latest version through system testing and user acceptance testing. You will also work to support the two Leakage Strategy Technical Specialists to drive improvements in data and systems to deliver enhancements to the business in leakage targeting and developing longer-term DMA and trunk main leakage plans.

Day to day responsibilities include:
  • System testing and user acceptance testing of the upgrade to Netbase 6.26
  • Support the development of the 10-year DMA/zonal action plans with specific targets to improve leakage, bursts, and other key metrics such as customer complaints and supply interruptions
  • Data capture and leakage management system set-ups to enable sub-DMA leakage targeting
  • Recognised subject matter expert in Netbase, Geohub, 3Rs reporting, and DMA-fingerprinting and underlying data
  • Providing support to the Senior Planners in the development and coordination of options and least-cost plans used in the management of the security of supply, demand, leakage, and network management
We’re looking for you to
  • Ideally have some experience in leakage and/or water networks analytics/systems
  • Be highly numerate with a proven record of driving data improvement
  • Have a relevant business/technical experience and an appreciation of technology innovations and techniques
  • Possess an excellent eye for detail and proven problem-solving ability
  • Be a team player who takes accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team
  • Be a strong communicator who can build positive relationships with stakeholders across the business at all levels
  • Take ownership and be confident with decision making and have a high degree of motivation and resilience
  • Be competent or have a good understanding of Netbase, Geohub, 3Rs reporting, and DMA-fingerprinting
What’s in it for you?
This is a unique role where you will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of people and data, giving you exposure to different areas of the business.  This is an ideal role for someone who is technically minded and enjoys working as a subject matter expert to support team members and the wider business whilst being able to influence the future direction of the business.

Our competitive salary package includes an excellent contributory pension, 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service, and a wider benefits scheme.

We’re proud of the positive ways of working we have adopted during the pandemic. We want to create a more flexible and dynamic environment so all our colleagues can thrive. For our office-based roles, we’re moving to a hybrid approach where we’ll provide options around working from our offices, our operational sites, and home dependent on role/team/individual. This will be discussed during the assessment process.

Thames Water is a unique, rewarding, and diverse place to work. If you join our team, you’ll enjoy fast-tracked career opportunities, flexible working arrangements, and unparalleled benefits. We’re also proud to be an equal opportunity employer, Stonewall Diversity Champion, and Disability Confident Leader and we’re a Times Top 50 Employer for Women.
