Brunel Medical School (BMS) opened its doors to an international cohort of students in September 2022 and welcomed UK students from September 2024. The BMS programme has a number of distinctive features, including Team-Based Learning (TBL), early development of consultation skills in primary care, digital health, programmatic assessment and an extensive collection of human plastinated specimens for Anatomy teaching. Living anatomy is also taught from Year 1 by means of hand-held ultrasound probes. There is a focus on embedding equality, diversity and inclusion into all aspects of the programme, and a range of digital technologies are used to enhance the student experience.
A suitably qualified academic with experience of medical education is sought who will contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the high quality MBBS Programme. The role will involve all aspects of the development, delivery, assessment and quality improvement of Anatomy within the MBBS programme. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to other aspects of the MBBS programme including embryology and/or histology. The successful candidate will also be part of a team of TBL Facilitators, contributing to the delivery of TBLs, supporting new training of staff and professional development initiatives. Applicants will need to be able to co-ordinate and prioritise a range of activities effectively. This is an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified academic to develop their educational skills in a supportive West London medical school that offers an innovative and technology enhanced curriculum to meet the educational needs of its students.
The commitment will initially be 3 days for Anatomy and 2 days for the TBL role in the working week, subject to review to meet the needs of BMS.
Applicants will have a first degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject area, a PhD or appropriate professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
An essential requirement is for the successful applicant to satisfy the requirements of checks by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).
We offer a generous annual leave package plus discretionary University closure days, excellent training and development opportunities as well as a great occupational pension scheme and a range of health-related support. The University is committed to a hybrid working approach.
For an informal discussion relating to this role please contact the Head of Anatomy, Dr Margaret Gatumu (Margaret.Gatumu@brunel.ac.uk).
