Job Description

The Employment Unit in Legal Services has conduct of the Employment Tribunal claims and also has conduct of the Police Officer gross misconduct cases as well as providing advice on all areas of employment law.

The unit comprises a Senior Employment Solicitor, three Employment Solicitors and two Paralegals. The job description is a generic one and whilst predominantly the Legal Assistant will work on employment and misconduct cases, they must have flexibility and be willing to offer support across the whole of Legal Services.

The Legal Assistant will assist in the progression of ET cases and Police Officer gross misconduct cases to include, but not limited to, the following:

• Collate and prepare bundles and indexes in relation to the cases of the employment unit;
• Monitor the cases of the Employment Unit to ensure that those cases are progressed in a timely manner;
• Maintain and update the Employment Unit's databases to ensure all data is captured accurately;
• Taking accurate notes of meetings and employment tribunal hearings/misconduct hearings;
• Liaise with witnesses, barristers, external law firms and third parties.

The post-holder needs to have really good attention to detail, be able to work accurately and quickly, be able to prioritise, to work well independently and cooperatively, to keep accurate records and to have a good understanding of the extent of the role and the importance of confidentiality and data protection.
