About the role
Here at Babcock International we're looking to recruit a Material Engineer.
We are proud to be the UK's leading submarine support provider. We are entrusted with the upkeep and deep maintenance of our Nation's submarines, which have been compared to the space shuttle in terms of complexity and are one of the most challenging engineering projects undertaken in the UK.
Whilst we continue to provide the Royal Navy with safe, highly capable Vanguard and Trafalgar classes of submarine, we are also preparing for the future. The Astute class represents the largest, most advanced and most powerful attack submarines ever operated by the Royal Navy. We are currently seeking 3 Material Engineers to join our established, but developing team. In return, you will be part of an exciting transformation across our project management and project controls function, driving world class project delivery performance. * To provide support to the planning and delivery of the Submarines Business Projects. To ensure governance of all Project Management principles in delivery of the Submarine projects
* Support the planning processes and ensure project governance is maintained
* Provide support to the material demand output ensuring that the material demand meets the requirements for quality and an appropriate representation of the Customer requirements
* Ensuring compliance with all working practices, standards of discipline, safety and quality is maintained, through familiarisation and compliance with requirements of extant Corporate Procedures
* Analysing, vetting and interrogating the Work Specification to ensure a full and detailed understanding and interpretation of the Customer requirements including Project gate and phase reviews iaw the Project Life cycle
* To produce subcontract metrics for Project Progress Meetings
What do I need to do the role?
You'll need to be qualified to a minimum of an ONC in an Engineering Discipline. However, consideration will be given to an applicant who has significant/transferable experience in a relevant engineering based subject or role.
We would also like you to have knowledge and experience of submarine systems, however, experience within a marine based engineering environment would be considered as relevant training will be provided to the successful candidates.

Babcock International Group owns and operates the main refit, maintenance and workshop area of the 330 acre naval site at Devonport, known as Devonport Royal Dockyard, where it employs thousands of people. The remainder of the site at Devonport is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is known as Her Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport - one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.
Babcock and the Ministry of Defence work in partnership to operate and maintain this co-located site by providing through-life support for submarines, surface ships and associated systems and equipment.
