The role
As a Mechanical Engineer you'll work within the New Product Development (NPD) Team where you will develop and deliver commercially viable products / projects, in line with the company's growth strategy. Governance will be provided from Subject Matter Experts, Engineering Managers and the Technical Director.

Day to day, you'll:

  • Undertake design calculations for product equipment, piping components (valves, pipe supports, flanges), pressure vessels, hydraulic systems and rotating machinery packages (pumps, compressors, etc.)
  • Apply competent knowledge in the following subject areas (appropriate for the development project); material selection, pressure vessel design, manufacturing/fabrication methods, structural design and analysis, vibration analysis and mitigation, pipe stress analysis, cryogenic piping applications.
  • Originator/check/approve responsibilities, as required for project deliverables of piping isometrics, system drawings, bill of materials, engineering analysis work and reports.
  • Work collaboratively to deliver clear and concise mark-ups for Designers to interpret and produce quality final drawings.
  • Work with Piping Designers to streamline the iterative design process required for the completion of pipe stress analysis (PSA) work.
  • Work collaboratively with Process Engineers to define the size of equipment, systems pressures and operating temperature, for concept and detailed design work.

This role is full time, Monday to Friday and is based at our Rosyth site, with hybrid working arrangements - 2 days in the office, 3 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineer

  • Industry experience (preferably marine) but would consider experience from other industries such as water, wastewater, power, pharmaceutical, drinks or food industry.
  • Competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) plus design and analysis software packages (MathCAD, Bentley AutoPipe, STAAD).
  • Experience working to design codes ASME VIII, ASTM, BS and EN.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills to develop innovative product solutions.
  • Good working knowledge of Product and Process Safety systems; HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA's.

Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer

  • An engineering degree (preferably MEng) in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Chartered engineering status (or working towards) with the IMechE.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain SC security clearance.
