Job Description

 

Serco is contracted to provide Total Facilities Management to the Defence Academy of the UK (DA). This prestigious establishment is responsible for post-graduate education and the majority of the command, staff, leadership, Defence management, acquisition and technology training for members of the UK Armed Forces and MOD Civil Servants. Serco supports the DA as the MOD's primary link with UK universities and international military educational institutions.

 

We are currently recruiting a Mechanical Operative to join our team. Key duties include:

  • PPM work dockets to be completed for maintenance and operation of heating, hot water, air conditioning, ventilation, lifts, compressors, diesel generators, grinding wheels, sewage pumps, chillers, pressure vessels, roller shutter doors, metal and partition doors, security fencing, gates and road traffic barriers, etc.
  • Reactive maintenance tasks issued by client stakeholders through FM Easy are to be completed within the contracts service level agreements or financial penalties could result.
  • Emergency response to immediate break downs will be required where there are a complete loss of critical services e.g. sewage pumps at JSCSC College, etc.
  • Corrective actions to pipe work and systems where repairs are necessary due to failure in use e.g. corroded or frost damaged pipes, etc.
  • Fabrication for enclosures, brackets, pipe work flanges, actuator and damper adjustments and some minor gas and electric welding, soldering and brazing as required.
  • Fault diagnosis of system problems by identifying the cause and affect quickly to reinstate and minimise any potential system down time.
  • Refer to manufacturer's literature for replacement parts and proprietary maintenance needs of the equipment concerned.
  • Comply with all task method statements and consult work risk assessments to ensure
    these are up to date including any requirements for COSHH and manual handling.
  • Utilise safe access systems such as ladders, tower scaffolds, mobile elevated work platforms, Genie lifts, etc

 

What you'll need to do the role:

You will have to gain BPSS clearance prior to appointment and SC clearance within the first 3 months.
