Here at Serco, within our Facilities and Estates team at Great Western Hospital (GWH), we are currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Manager. Responsible for 2 operatives, this role will enable the safe, efficient and effective maintenance of the mechanical and electrical services and equipment within the hospital.


You will be responsible for co-ordinating and supervise contractor & inhouse work & maintenance as required and will be accountable for:


  • Weekly proactive chase of all CAFM (Concept documentation) to ensure accurate weekly compliance reporting
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out in accordance with all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Work Place Regulations and Best Practice Guidelines
  • Proactive approach to the development and review of Health & Safety systems, work instructions and working practices
  • Managing procurement of Parts and Materials utilising office admin to raise Purchase orders
  • Carrying out PPM and reactive repairs, fault finding, servicing commissioning and maintenance to a wide range of Services, Plant and Equipment within all areas of the Hospital.
  • Be prepared to take on Authorised Person Duties which could include but not limited to Pressure systems, Legionella RP, Ventilation, Medical Gas (All training will be provided)
  • Supporting on any audit's and advise on technical queries using knowledge of legislation, best practice & manufacturers guidance.
  • Act as deputy to Mechanical Manager as required
  • Presenting technical information to non technical audiences in an easy to understand manner
  • Ensuring water maintenance regimes are fit for purpose' and in compliance with HTM 04-01, ACOP L8 & HSG274
  • Continually review water treatment regimes and adapt to ensure Medium / low temperature hot water boilers are operating at optimum performance and efficiency
  • Provision of PPM compliance data, water testing results, flushing compliance and any other requirement associated with HTM 04-01, ACOP L8 & HSG27


What you'll need to do the role


  • Completion of a recognised appropriate Engineering, Apprenticeship or other relevant structured Training Program or industry experience
  • Appropriate City & Guilds or BTEC certificate
  • Experience working within healthcare environment desirable
  • Authorised / Responsible Person Training desirable but can be provided
  • Previous water management experience managing a water hygiene programme
  • Legionella & Pseudomonas Training & experience
  • Flexibility is a must - at times you may be expected to supervise air quality, ventilation, ductwork cleaning, kitchen extract and canopy cleaning
