About the role
Energy & Marine (E&M) is a business unit within the Marine Division of Babcock International Group. E&M Engineering is a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine, system engineering, electrical engineering design and project support services to the marine and defence markets worldwide. We have vast experience in engineering, construction, concept design and through life support for a wide range of front line naval and auxiliary support vessels.
The Division is expanding rapidly with complex, high-profile defence projects including Type 31 Frigate Design & Build Programme and the Successor Programme, as well as, providing engineering services to the UK Surface Ship and Submarine fleet. Also, with ongoing additional framework agreements, infrastructure projects, export markets and research & development projects. Therefore, we are looking to grow our existing team, building on a well-established foundation of over 700 staff across the UK. We are recruiting staff in all disciplines, to join us at Bristol, Devonport or Rosyth with flexible working arrangements and UK travel to meet project requirements.
As a Naval Architect, you will be responsible for delivering technical solutions across a wide range of tasks, from concept design studies, new build bid submissions to inclines and test and trials. You will be required to be support the development of not only the technical solutions but also the individuals and teams you work in.
You will work in design teams through the design lifecycle to support the design and develop innovative design solutions and processes. You will produce substantiation reports for tasks undertaken including; stability assessment, repairs/conversions, concept designs, inclines, test and trials etc. Also, you will provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.
In addition, you will support the maintenance and improvement in quantity standards of outputs. Just as importantly, you will develop and enhance your own capability and knowledge, while ensure that, health, safety and environmental requirements are implemented.

What do I need to do the role?
You will have experience in naval architecture on vessels/marine platforms, defence related design experience, knowledge of naval architecture and design packages e.g. ship stability, 2D & 3D CAD. You will have experience working with engineering teams as well as good written and verbal communication skills.
Ideally, you will be Degree qualified but HND/HNC level qualification in naval architecture or marine engineering with extensive experience in relevant field will be considered. Ideally, you will be a member of a relevant institution (e.g. RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold or working towards Incorporated or Chartered status.
What else do I need to know?
You will work 36 hours per week Monday to Friday with flexible working and you must be able to achieve the appropriate level of Security Clearance.
