QinetiQ are seeking Naval Architects to join their expert technical team at Hasler with opportunities ranging from Associate to Senior Architects.

About the Team

The Naval Architecture and Maritime Engineering (NAME) group is within the Maritime and Land department of QinetiQ and consists of a team of over 40 staff. The team delivers hydrodynamic testing and design consultancy services. Hydrodynamic problem-solving forms a significant part of the project work within group - identifying a methodology for solving a client's hydrodynamic issues, mathematically or through model testing.

The Role

Your primary focus will be the technical delivery of projects relating to surface ship and submarine hydrodynamic subject areas. You will be presenting work in internal and external forums, including conferences and in customer meetings. You will have the opportunity to participate in business support activities including bidding and planning activities through the provision of task estimates and breakdowns of task descriptions.

You will use QinetiQ's hydrodynamic facilities and industry-standard or bespoke numerical simulation tools.

Skills and Experience Required

We are looking to speak with talented Naval Architects to join our technical team, skills in hydrodynamic design and assessment and propeller or propulsor design and assessment are highly desirable.

Your likely areas of interest may include propulsor and propeller design, dynamic stability, quasi-static stability, seakeeping, resistance and propulsion.

Other key skills/traits we are looking for are:

  • Good knowledge of data analysis including experience of programming (Matlab, Python etc.)
  • Highly motivated, dynamic with a positive attitude and values of integrity, collaboration and performance.
  • Ability to develop alternative strategies to overcome issues and innovate to improve the overall value to the customer.
  • Good communication skills, both written and presentational. Including the ability to exchange complex information.
