Here at HMNB Devonport, we have opportunities for Nuclear Safety Engineers at all levels. From the application of safety analysis tools to more strategic leadership roles within the team, we have positions for you to join one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in maintenance and refit support activities at Devonport. The defuel programme at DRDL involves the transition of laid up submarines through the various supporting facilities to achieve a final defueled state or maintained condition, as part of preparation for the final disassembly.
Who we are looking for?
We are looking for a Nuclear Safety Engineers to support projects across the Dockyard, from the existing nuclear and radiological facilities to the design of brand-new facilities for the maintenance and upkeep of the Royal Navy submarine fleet. We are looking for you to have good interpersonal skills and be competent in verbal and written communication, with the ability to operate and interface effectively with Senior Managers and internal stakeholders.
What will you be doing?
As a Nuclear Safety Engineer, you will work as part of the defuel programme, being responsible for providing Babcock's operations with specialist knowledge and support concerning Nuclear and Radiological safety. You will play a significant role as part of the defuel end to end process, supporting facilities and their safety assessments, requiring, and reviewing development, and enabling their use across the duration of the defuel programme.
You will also be responsible for providing Babcock's operations with specialist knowledge and support relating to nuclear and radiological safety, including:
- Providing direction on safety projects in line with strategy
- Ensuring compliance with statutory legislation and the terms of the Site Licence
- Supporting the delivery of Nuclear Safety Cases and modifications to these Cases
- Developing and implementing Nuclear Safety Processes and Standards
- Providing technical advice on Nuclear Safety Assessment Processes and Policy
The experience you'll bring
- Educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline
- Nuclear safety policy and methodology
- Safety Case development and leadership
- Safety Analysis Techniques
You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
