Job Description

Are you a highly motivated Dental Nurse looking to work in a friendly and rewarding environment? Then this may be the job for you. Defence Primary Healthcare is looking to appoint a Part-time Band 3 Dental Nurse (Civilian) to work at Dental Centre Hereford, Stirling Lines. Within this role you will provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in Defence Primary Health Care dental centre, to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

This role is 15 hours weekly:

Thursday, 0745-1645

Friday, 0745-1300

Alternate Wednesday, 1315-1645

If successful, you will be entitled to RPA £1500 per annum and professional registration fees refunded.

The duties of the successful candidates include but are not limited to:

Administration •Adhering to local stock control procedures when removing and replenishing items of stock from the storeroom. •Ensuring all statistical data is collated in accordance with current Defence Primary Health Care (Dental) policy. •Managing dental records (manual and electronic). •Managing the hastening, receipting, despatching and documenting of dental prosthetic appliances, ensuring timely appointments for patients as necessary.

Clinical •Ensuring your surgeries are prepared appropriately for the day’s patients in accordance with current regulations. •Carrying out and recording daily maintenance, servicing and pre-use checks of dental equipment reporting defects in accordance with current equipment care policies. •Preparing, mixing and handling dental materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions; adhering to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations and Safety Data sheets. •Recording accurate dental charting for each patient as required by the Clinician, Practice Supervisor/Manager, Receptionist and patient, as appropriate. Promptly uploading and correctly recording all digital radiographs for review by the prescribing Dental Officer (DO).

Essential Criteria •National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate or NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 3. •Must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC). •A full UK Driving Licence - assistance provided in other DPHC locations as required. •Experience and competence are required in the following areas: •Clinical Skills. This must include complete familiarity with HTM 01-05, Decontamination in primary care dental practices. •IT Skills. Competent is the use of electronic healthcare records •Experience and competence in the following areas is highly desirable: •Awareness of all contemporary professional guidance, e.g. NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence), GDC (General Dental Council) and the Society of British Dental Nurses (SBDN).

Candidates who hold the qualifications but are not yet registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) are eligible to apply for this vacancy. However, if found successful it is a requirement that you are registered with the GDC prior to starting in the post.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.

Further Information

Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP) he successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.
