Job Description

Are you a highly motivated Dental Nurse looking to work in a friendly and rewarding environment? Then this may be the job for you. Defence primary healthcare is looking to appoint a Part-Time Band 4 Administrative Dental Nurse to work at the Commando Training Centre, RM Lympstone EX8 5AR.

This is a part time role of 18.75 hours weekly.

If successful, you will be entitled to RPA £1500 per annum. Professional registration fees and a 2% Per month On Call Allowance.

The duties of the successful candidates include but are not limited to:

Administrative: •Being responsible for the efficient running of the CSU, including setting-up on Thursday and Friday before patients. •Completing and recording all tests and arranging further actions based on the results. •Organising specialist clinics, where required, including coordinating diaries and booking the clinic, ensuring appropriate radiographs have been taken and are ready for the specialist, assisting the specialist during the clinic. •Managing the patient appointment system, dental records (manual and electronic) and the receipting, dispatching and documentation of dental prosthetic appliances, ensuring timely appointments for patients.

Clinical: •Ensuring a daily test radiograph is taken and processed with all findings reported in accordance with extant policies and signed off by a clinician or trained individual. •Selecting appropriate instrument sets for each planned procedure in the diary. •Preparing, mixing and handling dental materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. •Providing chairside support to the operator for all operative procedures, including those provided by specialist dental surgeons. •Recording accurate dental charting for each patient as required by the dentist.

Essential Criteria •National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate or NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 3. •Must be registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) plus must have one of the following 5 post registration qualifications: Oral Health Education Certificate, Dental Radiography Certificate, Orthodontic Dental Nursing certificate, Dental Nursing Sedation certificate or Special Care Dental Nursing certificate.

Desirable Criteria •You should be able to work at pace to disinfect, sterilize and repackage instruments in a Central Sterilization Unit. •You should be familiar with spreadsheet management in Excel to coordinate lab work and referrals. •You will be delivering an important Oral Health Lecture to recruits every 2 weeks. You must be confident in the delivery. •You should understand the importance of robust Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and have courage to enforce protocols in the department as the IPC Lead. •You may be mentoring a trainee dental nurse, so should have an interest in developing others. •The holder must be performing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in order to advance and update their professional skills

Further Information

Due to COVID 19, there is now a requirement for dental clinical staff to be fit tested for a FFP3 mask, which has to be worn when managing a patient who is undergoing an aerosol generating procedure (AGP) the successful candidate will be fit tested prior to commencing employment.
