Your Role

The Portfolio CIO is the primary interface and business partner into our O2 head office functions, and oversees planning, prioritization and delivery of IT solutions and services to support business strategy and address regulatory requirements.

The PCIO leads the e2e technology organisation (70 people) across their portfolio, managing all resources from O2 in addition to technology partners and suppliers. Working closely with stakeholders the role identifies, prioritises and coordinates business demand and aligns project and programme resources across the portfolio.

This is a high profile leadership position, reporting to the CIO and a member of the IT leadership team. The role is also key in liaising with Leadership teams across our Head office, Operations and People functions and provides an escalation point for technology issues and risks. The individual will need to work with Executive Committee and Board level stakeholders.

The role provides a fantastic opportunity to build and run a team of high performing individuals with large accountability and visibility and ultimately be a key player in setting the direction for a multi bn organisation.

Key responsibilities

Lead and collaborate with senior leaders within the business teams to establish the portfolio and appropriate levels of governance
o Demand management and strategic alignment of projects and Programmes
o Evaluation, selection and prioritization
o Execution, tracking and measuring results

Leads monthly reviews with senior stakeholders, steering boards
o Project and portfolio delivery performance
o Demand prioritisation and planning
o Supplier delivery reviews

Lead quarterly reviews with senior stakeholders on:
o IT risks and application ownership
o Strategy and insight
o Long term and annual planning
o Technology spend and transparency

Agreeing and monitoring performance metrics with business units that track the benefits delivered through technology
Ensure the balance and availability of internal and external resources required to deliver the portfolio of work.
Promote the technology strategy through the decommissioning of legacy applications and services in line with decom plan.
Collaborate with partners and enabling functions to identify opportunities for applying technology to address business problems and push forward increasing digitization
Lead, Engage and develop our people
People leadership for up to 100 people, plus third party teams

Skills & experience

Extensive experience in IT and business / industry
Experience in diverse roles with increasing leadership responsibilities across portfolios of projects and programmes
Senior stakeholder management, including executive committee and board level engagement
Demonstrated experience in leading diverse teams in a matrix environment across geographies

Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to develop and communicate the portfolio objectives, inspire and motivate staff, and maintain alignment with business strategy.
A high degree of political sensitivity, and the ability to use the informal structure of the organization to overcome obstacles and achieve success.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain and "sell" the portfolio goals and objectives to the business and to technical leadership.
Experience across a range of portfolios, projects and programmes.
Strong business acumen, including Telecoms and IT specific knowledge of the organization and its business units. Familiarity with industry trends and innovation, and how other organizations are using them to drive digital business.
A high level of empathy and the ability to vary styles of interaction to match the needs of a variety of business and technical audiences, as well as temperaments and personalities.
Influencing and negotiation experience and skills in an environment with high competition for resources.
Excellent analytical, conceptual strategic planning and execution skills. Familiarity with financial analysis and associated reporting tools.
Ability to develop portfolios and deliver them against financial and resource constraints.
Strong decision making skills, ability to prioritise in complex scenarios
Familiarity with the use of reporting tools to monitor portfolio activities and analyze portfolio performance.
Familiarity with at least one delivery methodology or framework - PMI standards, PRINCE2, Agile, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP)
