Principal Engineer - Combat Systems

We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Combat Systems Engineer at our site in Scotstoun.

As a Principal Combat Systems Engineer, you will be contributing to the engineering design of the Type 26 (T26) Global Combat Ship Visual Surveillance System (VSS). You will be involved in the integration of the T26 VSS within the wider Combat System, where you will support the installation, commissioning, setting to work, trials and acceptance of VSS.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work in a varied role where no two days are the same. This role will involve some travel.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Combat Systems Engineer will involve:

Providing technical input into design reviews, installation, test, trials, acceptance and engineering change activities

Integration of T26 VSS, liaising with other Combat System leads and the Approval Authority to ensure coherency across the Combat System and incorporation of customer requirements

Monitoring and maintaining the physical and transverse suite of information for the T26 VSS in the appropriate toolsets

Engaging with the Shared Infrastructure team and other stakeholders to ensure physical and functional interfaces are captured fully and agreed

Liaising with other functions (Physical Integration, Supply Chain, Operations etc) to ensure a smooth path through to installation of the VSS

Supporting the Land Based Integration Facility by actively pursuing solutions to Visual Surveillance System Observation Reports

Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Combat Systems Engineer:

Essential skills:

Excellent knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle, particularly Factory Acceptance trials (FATS), harbour trials, sea trials etc

Requirements capture and management

Interface specification and control

Verification, validation and acceptance

Knowledge of information networks and shared infrastructure technologies

Degree in engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent

Extensive experience of system design (maritime environment desirable)

Experience of integration of complex systems

Desirable skills:

Proficient in the use of IBM Rational DOORS and IBM Rational System Architect

Experience of compliance with UK Health, Safety and Environmental legislation

Working knowledge of applicable commercial and defence standards

Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered Engineer status
