The role
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. The role could have you deployed on various projects including complex naval ships, marine infrastructure, ship upgrades and energy.


Day-to-day, you'll use your expertise in naval and engineering know-how is leveraged in asset management, where our teams are trusted to deliver complex and critical programmes on a vast scale. As a preferred maritime trainer, Babcock International has been delivering world-class support for over two decades to the Royal Navy, international navies, and commercial customers both in the UK and overseas.

  • Understanding customer needs and eliciting formal requirements
  • Deriving and manage requirements for systems and sub-systems
  • Define acceptance methodologies for system and sub-system requirements
  • Manage the Assurance and Acceptance process with our customers and suppliers
  • Providing Systems Engineering guidance to the wider project including various design reviews

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.

Essential experience of the Principal Systems Engineer

  • Experience in Requirements elicitation and management and/or acceptance of complex systems
  • Experience of using requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS)
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles
  • Experience of people management

Qualifications for the Principal Systems Engineer

  • Degree level qualification in STEM subject (Science/Technology/Engineering/Maths) or experience within Systems Engineering

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
