About the role

As Senior Product Manager for Card Payment you will drive the product strategy, roadmap, execution and optimisation for card payment and processing technology at Tesco. Your mission is to ensure that card payments are better for our customers and simpler for our colleagues.

Our product vision is to enable frictionless, secure payments across all channels and markets.  We are in full control of the merchant payment lifecycle, protecting customer data throughout. We enable payment innovation via a global, omnichannel retail platform.

You will work as part of the Payments team in Tesco Technology, a cross-functional Agile product development team of engineers, technology product managers and programme managers. We are based in office locations in the United Kingdom (London and Welwyn Garden City), India (Bengaluru) and Hungary (Budapest). We are responsible for payment experience and processing for all Tesco markets globally.

So what does this all really mean? Well, your team will own customer facing card payment capability & experiences across all channels and markets. You will optimise our processing & acceptance rates through to our acquirers and issuers, working with our Loss Prevention colleagues to balance fraud vs friction.  You will also contribute to our broader payment strategy, including; new payment experiences, the future of card payments, open banking, native wallets, closed loop schemes and much, much more.

We have some really exciting in-house initiatives across the team, ranging from; expanding our payment coverage to include Hungary, Czechia and Slovakia; enabling frictionless shopping & payment capability for our new store formats; truly optimising our approach to PSD2 SCA and replacing our fleet of 40,000 PED's!  If you think this sounds exciting too, we'd love to discuss more with you.

You will be responsible for

  1. Manage an API as a product to enable digital transformation and create new lines of business
  2. Efficient in stakeholder management and has ability to steer the team in the right direction by putting best team members in the most value generating Products/ Business priorities
  3. Knowledge of Card processing domain in a merchant environment would be beneficial
  4. Build scalable, resilience transactional services as part of a wider service orientated architecture for multiple consumers and front-end apps to use
  5. Business process mapping, workflow optimisation, human centred design
  6. Technically competent to influence and understand the solution context and approach (legacy, tactical, strategic) and aid engineering in estimating the complexity of work being requested
  7. Have proven success in leading a team of highly talented and opinionated product managers and taken multiple ideas from conception to go-live, through standard software product development lifecycle and got measurable success across defined Outcomes and Key Results
