About the Department
SSE Renewables (SSER) is the UK and Ireland's leading renewable energy company. Our aim is to be the largest and most efficient developer of onshore and offshore wind in the UK and Ireland. We drive new growth by identifying, developing, building and operating high quality assets in GB, Ireland and internationally. In order to contribute to a low carbon future, we have committed to treble our current Renewables output by 2030.
Our Renewables Operations teams are responsible for operating our onshore and offshore wind and hydro fleet safely and efficiently. We carry out essential operations and maintenance to maximise asset value in a dynamic energy market.
What is the Role?
The Civil Delivery Team with Renewable Operations is responsible for providing quality engineering, maintenance and operational support to the Hydro and Onshore operations of the renewables business. This role would suit a graduate with substantial work experience who is keen to develop within our business and ultimately play a key role in the planning, supervision through construction and commissioning of significant maintenance works.
Working with an experienced team of engineers and technicians based throughout Scotland, you'll assist in ensuring all renewable generation assets are operated and maintained to the high standards expected within SSE. Under supervision from your Lead Engineer, you'll contribute to the development of complex engineering projects that will range from overhaul and refurbishment on a broad range of heavy civils assets to minor civil maintenance works such as road improvements. You'll quickly gain experience working within a fast-moving operational environment and develop your project management skills through taking responsibility for managing less complex projects.
You'll be given the opportunity to repair, refurbish and replace large gates and valves, winches, hydraulics, tunnels, pipelines, wind towers and dams. After completion of training, you'll be expected to project manage significant refurbishment works in addition to your core engineering responsibilities.
What do I need?
We are looking for someone who has experience working in a similar type of role within an engineering and/or operational environment and is developing their technical skill base. You'll have the ability to thrive in a diverse engineering environment and be comfortable taking on a significant level of responsibility to safely deliver large overhaul and refurbishment projects on time and to budget.
You'll need to be a confident communicator, show flexibility in operating across our business unit, and be capable of working in a fast-moving environment on multiple projects. You should also be willing to train towards the highest safety qualification to operate significant pieces of plant at our power stations such as hydraulic gates, valves and other mechanical items.
Due to the work involved in this role it is essential you are able to work in a variety of environments, from height to confined spaces, and have some experience with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
Travel to remote operational sites across the UK and Ireland will be expected as part of this role, so a full valid driving licence is essential.
