Base Location: Perth (must be Perth based 3 days per week, with flexibility to work from home the remainder of the week)

Salary: £32,700 - £49,100 (depending on skills/experience) + performance-related bonus

About the Department

EPM & Investments aim is to create value-adding energy trading services for all stakeholders and external customers by providing superior returns and diversity of fuel supply through financial gas investments that are aligned to SSE's risk strategy. EPM & Investments also offers insight to support the SSE PLC portfolio, while supporting financial investment with well-managed exploration activity.

What is the Role?

The Risk & Assurance Team within Energy Portfolio Management is responsible for managing the market risk & analysis, operational risk & analysis, credit risk and regulatory risks affecting our business and the markets we operate in.

We are currently looking for an experienced Analyst to join our Risk Management team, based in Perth. You will undertake a key role in the business as part of a team who are responsible for the position management and reporting of risk matrices, Value at Risk and Profit at Risk.

You'll provide valuations and forecast earnings of physical assets (thermal power stations, gas storage, renewables assets) as well as nonstandard bilateral contracts (PPAs, swing contracts, indexed spreads and weather derivatives). You'll be comfortable with big data, demonstrate a flair for problem solving and have a track record of developing solutions to meet changing business requirements and improving processes.

What do I need?

We're looking for someone who will play a pivotal role in supporting the business in its role of managing financial risks created through operating and trading in the wholesale energy markets. Problem solving and mathematical modelling will be essential to your success in this role along with developing a comprehensive understanding of the European wholesale energy markets. Familiarity with Lacima Analytics, ZEMA and Allegro would be highly beneficial.

You should be fully aware of the accounting and regulatory classification pertaining to energy commodities; have strategic awareness of the energy industry, and be a highly analytical thinker with the ability to distil complex information and communicate on a variety of levels. You'll be comfortable dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders within SSE and effective in building strong working relationships with other business areas.
