We are looking for 2 School Transport Drivers to support the county’s Transport Services.

Our Transport Services are dedicated to transporting the most vulnerable children of our community from home to school and back. This is your chance to become part of a reliable and efficient team, delivering high standard passenger transport services throughout the county.

About you…

As a School Transport Driver, you will have:

  • A current standard driving license with D1 entitlement
  • Experience of driving a small commercial vehicle or minibus
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Able to work split shifts across the day
  • Able to check vehicles to ensure road worthiness

About the role…

As a School Transport Driver you will drive any Rutland Council vehicle as requested, in a safe and appropriate manner in compliance with road traffic law to at least the statutory driving test standard. Other duties include:

  • To be responsible for the general welfare and safety of passengers carried on Rutland Council vehicles. This will include assisting passengers on and off vehicles both with, and without, the use of a tail-lift where necessary.
  • To maintain all vehicles in a clean and tidy condition, both inside and out, at all times and as per instructions.
  • To make sure that before driving a vehicle, it is in a fit and serviceable condition by carrying out legal and other proscribed daily and weekly routine checks as directed. Also, to undertake weekly safety checks, including fire precautions, as instructed or more frequently if operating conditions require it and to report any defects.
  • To complete any record of work, vehicle log, report form or any other record of vehicle utilisation that may be required by law or by Rutland Council.
  • To carry out escort duties and/or assist other drivers as directed, as and when required.
  • To ensure that the security of the vehicle (as well as any passengers or goods carried) is maintained at all times and especially before leaving the vehicle at the end of the working day.
  • To carry out escort duties and/or assist other drivers as directed, as and when required.

Your passengers may include the general public and children with special educational needs or disabilities. On complex routes you will be supported by a Passenger Transport Assistant during the journey.

The successful applicant for the post of School Transport Driver will be subject to an enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The costs for the DBS are paid by us.

The School Transport Driver interviews will be held week commencing 20 June 2022. Please be advised this could be subject to change, in which case we will give appropriate notice.
