Job description for SDA Lead Electrical Engineer

If so, an exciting and dynamic opportunity has arisen for an experienced waterfront Engineer to be the electrical Design Authorities (DA) eyes and ears on the ground.

The Electrical Design Authority within the SDA In-Service Submarines team is responsible for providing safe to operate electrical systems across all the currently in-service T, V and A boats. The team is based at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol, and is tasked with managing design change and work packages for maintenance periods, including the longer refit periods, which take place in Devonport. This waterfront post in Devonport is the Design Authority’s representative on site.

The position requires a dynamic individual who can carry out on-board assessment of electrical engineering issues and assist in planning and maturing work packages.

Due to the nature of security, this role is reserved for sole UK nationals only.

Responsibilities for SDA Lead Electrical Engineer

As Lead Electrical Engineer, you will work in a complex project environment, delivering technical advice across an array of situations, whilst also liaising directly with key stakeholders to resolve technical electrical issues.

The responsibilities of this post will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Technical Assessment of defects
• Attending Joint Project Team meetings
• Engaging with industry and military stakeholders on site
• Briefing the DA about on-site issues

As our Lead Electrical Engineer, you will be based at HMNB Devonport and will be required to work on site most days. Flexible working hours are available, with occasional detached duty travel expected.

What you will be assessed against

To be successful with your application you must demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:
• Hold a relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification in Engineering or have equivalent experience
• Have demonstrable marine electrical engineering experience
• Be able to work independently
• Have considerable stakeholder management experience

It will also benefit your application if you are able to demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
• Submarine experience would be preferred
