The role
As a Senior Employee Relations Specialist, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will be tasked with giving commercially focused and pragmatic advice across varying disciplines, such as: absence management, flexible working, disciplinaries, grievances, performance management, employee welfare and much more in a highly unionised environment.

Day-to-day, you'll manage complex employee relations cases and settlement negotiations, as well as coaching the ERS team operating within a dynamic, agile, and changing workplace within a very supportive and driven team. You will also:

  • Lead on complex or high-risk cases
  • Act as the lead for absence management; working with line managers to conduct welfare meetings and find suitable resolutions.
  • Developing management capability on handling and dealing with employee relations activity through coaching and advice
  • Support line managers in finding and delivering suitable and effective resolutions, to include all formal processes, contractual matters, policies, and general queries.
  • Ensure a coordinated and consistent case management approach to handling ER matters.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and can be based at either Rosyth or Plymouth alongside home working. If based at Plymouth this role requires regular travel to Rosyth.

Essential experience of the Senior Employee Relations Specialist

  • Have prior experience of working autonomously as the Employee Relations expert within a complex global organisation.
  • Be self-confident, approachable, and proactive in the way you carry out your work.
  • Have an excellent understanding and knowledge of ER, employment law and relevant legislation, with an awareness of the importance of keeping up to date.
  • Have current working experience of operating in a Unionised environment.
  • Be commercially and data driven, with a pragmatic and innovative approach to ER whilst delivering proactive direction and solutions, independently and collectively.

Qualifications for the Senior Employee Relations Specialist

  • CIPD Level 5 (or above) or equivalent experience

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
