Senior Engineer - Combat Systems

Would you like to have a direct impact on the capability and performance of submarines currently in-service? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer - Combat Systems at our site in Weymouth.

As a Senior Engineer - Combat Systems, you will be working closely with other internal teams such as Technical Authorities, design teams, customers and suppliers.

This role will provide you with opportunities for development into technical leadership roles and to cross train into sub systems to gain in depth knowledge of navigation, sonar, target motion analysis, etc. across all current and future RN submarines.

Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer - Combat Systems will involve:

Designing, developing and testing Combat System modelling and analysis toolsets using standard tools of the trade, e.g. Excel, Visual Basic, MATLAB, C#

Undertaking modelling to produce Integrated Combat System Performance Baselines for each CS variant

Undertaking analysis (covering multiple data sources) in order to investigate, compare and record Combat System performance

Identifying and implementing improvements to existing toolsets, processes and procedures.

Identifying and implementing novel techniques to measure System Performance

Conducting system-level trials in shore, harbour and sea environments, at UK and overseas locations (including NW Scotland, USA and Bahamas), and/or undertaking off-site analysis

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

Experience of carrying out technical trials and analysis of trial results, including report writing

Conversant in programming in multiple languages (including Matlab ideally)

Experience of manipulating and analysing data and using data analysis toolsets

Desirable:

Experience of carrying out military trials

Operational analysis experience

Configuration management experience

Knowledge of one or more of the following sub-systems: Sonar, Navigation, Array processing, target motion analysis

You will have good communication skills and be able to liaise with various stakeholders and work collaboratively. You will be diplomatic and able to work well within a team. You will respond well under pressure to deliver analysis reports to short timescales and be able to adapt to short-notice programme and schedule changes.

Maritime - Submarines

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.

The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
