HBC has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their Technical Operations team.
The role of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of professionally qualified Engineers, ensure the retention and development of both external and internal customers by the application of specialist technical knowledge and understanding of NHBC Standards and Building Regulations.
Deliver an efficient and effective service on Land Quality Endorsement consultancy services and provide support to NHBC Core, Building Control Services Ltd and Claims in accordance with the business area Service Level Agreement and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure NHBC, customer and statutory requirements are met.
About the role
Manage risk to NHBC Group on proposals under the LQE service and support on warranty products, claims and to NHBC BCS on building control applications as necessary in accordance with the relevant business area SLA’s, technical policies and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure customer and statutory requirements are met.
Manage own workload, projects and allocated tasks to ensure relevant SLAs are achieved.
Provide professional technical advice as well as support on the assessment of foundation/geotechnical designs for compliance with Building Regulations and warranty standards as necessary including resolving geotechnical aspects of any submissions.
Negotiate with developers, builders and their professional advisors to ensure geotechnical proposals in relation to sites being assessed through the Land Quality Endorsement service, as well as building control and warranty submissions, are satisfactory with respect to relevant regulations/NHBC Standards.
Assist with the management of the warranty aspects by supporting engineers and inspection staff with the provision of expert advice, inspection of high risk/complex solutions and review of progress.
Prepare technical reports for builders/developers and/or professional advisors and check reports prepared by others.
On foundation related claims, agree brief with client, undertake investigations, report on finding, prepare solutions for remedial work schemes, issue tender information, assess costs and undertake site inspections.
Manage all aspects of assigned claims projects to ensure delivery of outputs is within specified timescales and budget.
Keep up-to-date with NHBC’s IT systems.
Ensure compliance with NHBC and HSE requirements for personal safety and that of others.
Deliver technical presentations to both internal and external customers as required.
Assist with training, coaching and mentoring of others as required.
Demonstrable substantial experience in the geotechnical sector
Demonstrable substantial experience of site investigations, site assessments, geotechnical and foundation designs.
Demonstrable substantial experience of the preparation and assessment of earthworks specifications and geotechnical remediation strategies for brownfield and complex geotechnical sites
Appropriate accredited first degree
Chartered or working towards Chartered membership of an appropriate professional body/institution
Proven ability to make pragmatic risk-based decisions on technical solutions and on compliance with regulations and/or standards.
Ability to assimilate complex information quickly and accurately.
Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to record and explain complex procedures in a meaningful and appropriate style.
Advanced knowledge of investigations and testing associated with soils and earthworks.
Advanced knowledge of geotechnical remediation techniques and verification for poor quality soils and fills
Advanced knowledge UK soils conditions, geotechnical design and theory and foundation solutions
Awareness and understanding of NHBC Standards and Building Regulations relevant to soils and foundations.
Knowledge of ground gases

£41000.00 - £44300.00 per annum(depending on experience)
