What is the Role?

This senior network designer role is within Optical transmission which forms part of the Reading based Technology team. You will have responsibility for the co-ordination, architecture and design of the Optical transmission networks. You will be the design authority when interacting with other parts of the SSE Enterprise Telecom business and have responsibility for the expansion and general design activities of the existing Optical networks (DWDM/WDM). You will also act as a subject matter expert for the Optical networks, developing relationships with the key suppliers and maximise value for the business. Capacity planning of the network is also a key element of the role along with the business case creation and design justification.

In addition, you will support and provide solutions to fulfil current and future demands of Optical network infrastructure for growth, sales support and strategic driven projects. You will manage the effective delivery of detailed design workflow from job initiation through to implementation, along with the creation and maintenance of key network records. Also you will be responsible for financial and budget requirements and production of weekly reports.

What do I need?

An essential requirement is 5 years experience within a service provider environment with an in-depth knowledge of Optical transmission networks (DWDM/WDM and SDH) technical certifications underpinning this applicable knowledge is desirable. You should demonstrate a good working knowledge of other telecommunications technologies, including IP MPLS.
