About the role
We're looking for four new Senior Project Planners to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
The Estates Project Department is responsible for delivering extensive and diverse infrastructure upgrades and improvements across the entire Devonport Site and often beyond. A significant, recent commitment to invest in site improvement necessitates expansion of the existing core team to accommodate delivery. As a Senior Project Planner (Project Scheduler) you'll be tasked with managing a suite of projects across the Devonport site for all aspects of the infrastructure upgrades currently taking a place.
You'll use your significant previous experience within a Project Management function and the delivery of infrastructure projects to undertake a range of activities to update projects and programmes. You'll report on projects and programmes, including progress, resource (internal and external), risk, KPI's and LFE. You'll be proactive in your approach to reporting with the ability to bring new ideas to the team. You'll also chair reporting meetings with Senior Managers.
What do I need to be able to do the role?
You'll be educated to HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, or hold an appropriate APM qualification. This may however be formally wavered for a period depending on the level of relevant experience and specific capability.
You'll need to demonstrate a high level of organisational skills and the ability to self-manage and produce information and output reports with little guidance. You will also be highly proficient in the use of Primavera (Primavera P6 Professional Fundamentals is desirable).
We would also like you to have the following:
- Good knowledge of APM philosophy.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel skills
- Proficient user of Microsoft Project
- An understanding of risk management and LfE and their relationship with the schedule
Lastly, strong interpersonal and communication skills are also essential attributes for this post, as is the ability to interact confidently and effectively with senior management and both Babcock and MoD senior stakeholders.
What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
