Ships Mechanical Fitter
Would you like to play a key role in the ever-growing maritime business unit? We currently have a vacancy for a Ships Mechanical Fitter at our site in Portsmouth.
As a Ships Mechanical Fitter, you will be working within a ship repair team for repair and the manufacture of projects for our Ministry of Defence and other military and commercial customers.
This role will provide you with an opportunity to work as part of a large team within our maritime operations business function, as well as providing you with a variety of projects and environments to work within this including a number of different vessels.
There are real opportunities for development within the team or move into management planning.
Your main responsibilities as a Ships Mechanical Fitter will involve:
Carrying out a Trade specific on task dynamic risk assessment before every task
Abiding by all risk assessments, BAE polices and processes
Attending all training courses, Tool box talks and briefings where possible
Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, overhaul and repair on a variety of mechanical equipment machinery and systems such as High and low-pressure pumps, Rolls Royce WR21 Gas turbines, Shaft Line, Rudder and Stabilizer work
Ensuring all tools and equipment that are used are suitable, fit for purpose and in date for any inspection required
Developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers, managing their expectations and needs
Completing works as detailed by team leader
Reporting all accidents, incidents and near misses via the appropriate reporting tool
Essential skills and qualifications
Recognised apprenticeship or industry / naval equivalent qualifications within the mechanical sector
Good knowledge of mechanical systems and associated equipment
Understanding of safe systems including tag-out (LOTO), confined space working, working at height
Willingness to undertake additional training in order to take on additional duties to support the production team
Candidates must be flexible to undertake tasks across any trade disciplines as required
Desirable skills and qualifications
Background in marine/maritime engineering
Flexible approach to delivering work at various sites as required
Shaft line and dock bottom experience
Caterpillar, Wartsilla and MTU diesel experience
