The Role

We are seeking dedicated and experienced Social Workers to join our Children in Care Team. The Children in Care team provide Social Work services to children and young people who are in the care of North Somerset Council and have a care plan to remain in care on a long term basis. Our team work closely with the Fostering Service, Leaving Care Service and Virtual School.

We have two permanent positions available, one full time, 37hrs position and one part time, 22.2hrs position. 

We are looking for qualified Social Workers who have the necessary skills, experience and motivation to promote positive outcomes for children in care. The team work well together, and you will be supported by regular supervision.

In this role, you will be the allocated social worker for a number of children and young people who are in care and whose care plan is long term care. You will undertake assessments, care planning and therapeutic interventions to support children in care. You will work collaboratively with other professionals in order to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families.

You will be supported by a strong and consistent senior management team, with a manageable caseload, high quality reflective supervision working in supportive and creative social work teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working collaboratively with other professionals in order to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to improving outcomes for children, young people and their families.
  • Working with a small number of children and families, to achieve permanence and the best possible long-term outcomes for children in care.
  • Continuously improve your practice by developing your knowledge and skills through post qualifying training.

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.

 

About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about Children, and who possesses the following skills and experience:

  • Be a qualified Social Worker (with a Social Work England Registration) with a passion for working with children and their families to help improve their outcomes and to keep them safe from harm using a strengths-based approach.
  • Have sound knowledge of relevant childcare legislation, including a clear understanding of ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ and fostering regulations and legislation.
  • Have an ability to build effective relationships with children, young people and families.
  • Develop purposeful and productive outcome focused relationships with children, young people, and their parents/carers based upon partnership and mutual respect.
