Here at Serco, we are looking for an experienced Team Leader to join the Standards Audit Unit team at HMP Kilmarnock. Reporting into the Assistant Director - Business Services & Governance, you will be responsible for maintaining the systems and providing assurance on operational, organisational, and contractual compliance within the establishment. You will also hold responsibility for the development of management information systems, ensuring that critical business statistical data is collated, maintained, analysed, and reported. Additionally, this includes ensuring that relevant audits are planned, implemented, and completed.

 

As our new SAU Team Leader, you will be responsible for co-ordinating with the Assistant Director and SAU Auditors (Operations/Governance/Compliance) on the planning and completion of audits, and as a primary contact for the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO). A key part of your role will include ensuring procedures are followed in relation to legal correspondence, litigation, Freedom of Information Scotland Act (FOISA) as well as General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Other key activities will include:

 

  • Undertaking auditing of systems and processes in contribution to delivery of an SAU Audit Calendar to assure the establishment of compliance with customer requirements, HMIP, legislative requirements e.g. HS&E, Facilities Management, Serco Management System (SMS) and other specific regulatory requirements along with targeted audits as required.

  • Managing an electronic system to provide assurance on the allocation and effective implementation of actions from Scottish Prison Service (SPS) Controller Department audits, Governors and Managers action notices, internal audits, Serco Group and any other third-party audits.

  • Ensuring that all activities conducted in the Performance and Compliance function, meet all Health and Safety requirements and that there is an awareness of environmental issues designed to reduce the carbon footprint through reduced waste and increase recycling.

 

What you will need to do the role:

 

First and foremost, you will have proven experience in driving performance, where possible within a custodial setting, with the ability to manage and develop staff appropriately, utilising Personal Development Review, and other people management procedures. Due to the nature of the role, you will need to have previous experience of implementing, managing, and monitoring new & existing processes, whilst dealing with different issues concurrently to meet tight deadlines.

 

To undertake this role successfully, you must have good IT skills with either existing knowledge/experience of PR2 and CMS or a willingness to develop knowledge and skills in this area, as this will be a key part of your role. As SAU Team Leader, you will need to have strong interpersonal & communication skills with an enthusiastic approach to delegating and motivating others to achieve within your team.

 

This is a great role for someone who is confident in their ability to work proactively using their own initiative, as well as the ability to work effectively with senior colleagues from other functions. Accreditation as a Prisoner Custody Officer is advantageous but not essential.
