The St. James's Place Academy offers an exciting opportunity to build a new and rewarding career in financial planning and wealth management as a qualified financial planner. Successful candidates would be seeking to build their own wealth management business with St. James's Place, or they could consider the opportunity to join one of our many existing Partner Practices as an Adviser.
This is a fully funded two-year career change programme which provides extensive education, coaching and assessment to equip people with the skills and knowledge needed to become highly competent and effective financial planners. No previous financial experience is required and ongoing support is provided from day one - each candidate has their own development manager and a mentor, both during and after the programme.
The Academy has strong bonds with ex-military personnel and is proud to have trained many ex-servicemen and women. We value the highly valuable skill set and training that ex-military people bring to the role of a financial planner. We understand that thinking about life after the armed forces can be daunting and that entering civilian life can be overwhelming for some and naturally there are many factors you’ll want to consider.
The Core Skills Required
Successful applicants will be high calibre individuals and they join from a wide range of backgrounds and professions, typically with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating open-mindedness and resilience. This opportunity is best suited to highly motivated individuals with an aptitude for building strong relationships from within their network and the ability to develop new ones. In addition:

- creativity and solution skills - developing appropriate portfolios for clients
- presenting and communicating information - ability to articulate a vision
- entrepreneurial and commercial thinking

* Due to the impact of COVID-19, it has meant that the ways our Advisers deliver their services has changed and it’s important that they are able to use a variety of mediums to deliver the regular contact and a personal service that clients expect. This might be through face-to-face interaction, through video conferencing and virtual meetings, presenting on virtual stages in webinars - integrating technology and tools to make practical efficiencies on a day-to-day basis. We feel it’s worth investing in developing these skills now as they will still be relevant and important in the future as we all adapt to the ‘new normal’.
