About the Department

Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.

SHE Transmission is SSE's fastest-growing and fastest-changing business. Our network is in a period of rapid expansion in response to the significant growth in renewable generation connections meeting the UK climate change and renewable generation targets. This expansion includes the introduction of new technologies such as DC Subsea Links.

What is the Role?

Due to this growth, we have exciting and challenging opportunities for our Transmission Control Engineers. We are looking for an experienced engineer to join our day team who will ensure that changes are safely delivered onto the live network within the control centre. This role will involve the coordination of commissioning programs and operational data, power system analysis and ensuring the provision of appropriate SCADA displays and PSS/E models prior to network changes. In real time, commissioning and switching up to 400kV with the opportunity of moving to the next level.

What do I need?

The successful candidate will hold a minimum of an HNC in electrical engineering and will have been authorised to SAP level. You will have a relevant background in power system operation and will possess strong communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues effectively to a diverse range of stakeholders. We are looking for team players who will work well in a knowledge sharing culture. You will be able to demonstrate a flexible and proactive approach to work in order to achieve results and will thrive under pressure.
